Adventures on the Lost Coast

Law and Order: Sandpoint

Incident Report 1411-01

Case No: 811-3219
Date: 3 Rova 4707
Reporting Officer: Anwar al’Nisr
Incident: Gorvi (Sandpoint dustman) involved in threatening behaviour and brandishing of a weapon.

Detail of Event:
At roughly 1:30 in the afternoon of Toilday 3 Rova, deputised militiamen Alexios and Severia proceeded to Gorvi’s Hut to interview the afore-named regarding the possible sightings of goblins in and around Junker’s Edge. Gorvi responded poorly to interview techniques, becoming enraged and brandishing his battleaxe.

Actions Taken:
The deputies and I withdrew from the premises.

Summary:
While the brandishing of the weapon can be seen as alarming, Gorvi was not under suspicion of criminal intent. Given his character, suggest a different technique when attempting to interview Gorvi at a later date.

Incident: Deputy Severia sustained injury while attempting to climb down Junker’s Edge

Detail of Investigation:
At roughly 1:40 pm on Toilday 3 Rova, deputised militiamen Alexios and Severia proceeded to climb down Junker’s Edge using a grappling hook and rope secured to the footings of the partially dismantled staircase built for Jervis Stoot (ref: Chopper). Deputy Alexios climbed down first, reaching the beach 50 feet below without incident. Deputy Severia followed, but according to her own statement lost grip and fell approximately 20 feet.

Actions Taken:
Deputy Alexios reacted swiftly, arresting Deputy Severia’s fall and cushioning her from impact. Both parties sustained minor damage. I remained atop Junker’s Edge while the Deputies continued their investigation, first of the beach, then of the derelict house on Chopper’s Isle for signs of goblins presence.

Summary:
Both Deputies suffered minor injury, but were healed by me via Sarenrae’s holy presence. Both deputies report no signs of goblin activity, but concede that the effects of the tide may make such identification near impossible. While both Deputies managed to scale Junker’s Edge on their return, a near slip nearly caused both to tumble down again. It is suggested that Deputy Severia procures a climbing harness before any further attempts at climbing are taken.

Incident Report 1611-01

Case No: 811-3220
Date: 5 Rova 4707

Incident: Armed intervention at the Barett residence.

Detail of Event:
At approximately 6:20 pm on Wealday 4 Rova, a foot patrol consisting of Deputies Alexios, Severia, and myself, were approached by Mrs. Amele Barett. Mrs. Barett was clutching her baby girl Verah to her chest and had her son Aeren in town. Mrs. Barett was clearly panicked. She explained that a goblin had attacked her son, and her husband Alergast attacked the goblin while telling her to summon the authorities. Mrs. Barett led our patrol quickly to her home on High Street. The Barett residence is a single story detached home of wood and brick construction, with a single entrance opening on to a main room and kitchen, with a short hallway on the right side leading to two bedrooms.

Actions Taken:
Leaving Mrs. Barett and her children outside, out patrol entered the residence. We were able to quickly confirm that the main room, kitchen, and master bedroom were clear. Entering the secondary bedroom we discovered Mr. Alergast Barett lying unconscious in a pool of blood. We could also hear a distinct rustling coming from the wardrobe. A preliminary assessment of Mr. Barett’s condition showed that he had been stabbed in the side. I quickly evacuated him from immediate danger and stabilized him via prayer to Sarenrae. As I moved the Mr. Barett, a shriek came from the closet, and a goblin wielding a crude knife burst out, attacking Deputy Severia. Deputy Severia managed to open fire, injuring the goblin. Deputy Alexios then clubbed the goblin with the flat of his blade, rendering the goblin unconscious. After securing the goblin, I performed divine healing on Mr. Barett, restoring him to health and consciousness. The goblin was then taken to the Sandpoint Garrison for interrogation (Ref. Interview Report 1611-01A).

Summary:
Thanks to a quick response from our patrol, we were able to save the life of Mr. Alergast Barett. Preliminary investigations into the matter have concluded that the goblin was one that took part in the Swallowtail Festival raid of Sunday 1 Rova, who must have fled into the Barett residence to escape the authorities. When the Barett family returned home, it is surmised that the goblin managed to hid in a small pit under the wardrobe by removing floorboard. It is likely that the goblin discovered the floor while looking for either loot or food during the Barett family’s absence.

Interview Report 1611-01A

Case No: 811-3220
Date: 5 Rova 4707
Reporting Officer: Anwar al’Nisr
Interviewee(s): Gesgurt the Goblin

Summary
On the evening of Wealday 4 Rova, we interrogated the captured goblin Gesgurt. Despite our best efforts, it seems that Gesgurt had succumbed to a form of madness, not unlike those I have seen on the battlefield. Perhaps the events or the Swallowtail Raid and the subsequent defeat of the goblin raiders was too much for him, or he had been terrorized by one too many dogs. Regardless, Gesgurt only divulged:

  1. his name,
  2. a demand to be let go,
  3. a demand to know where he was,
  4. a demand to be returned to his “kingdom”, and
  5. a demand for food.

This was learned via a prayer to Sarenrae to help me understand his words. No amount of coercion yielded different results. We did not resort to torture.

Follow Up Action(s):
As per Deputy Alexios’ suggestion, we will sedate Gesgurt for now with the intention of freeing him tomorrow. It is hoped that once free, he will lead us to his lair, where we can take action against the goblin menace. (Ref. Incident Report 1611-02)

Incident: Militia sting operation involving Gesgurt.

Detail of Event:
At approximately 6:00 am on Oathday 5 Rova, Deputies Alexios, Severia, and I enlisted the aid of Constables Slater and Michaels to help us with crowd control. We then proceeded to take the suspect Gesgurt to the edge of town. While Slater and Michaels kept the early morning on-lookers at bay, Deputies Alexios, Severia, and I moved Gesgurt beyond the walls of Sandpoint.

Actions taken:
We attempted to free Gesgurt, as per out plan. However, whatever madness had gripped Gesgurt had not released him. In a maddened rage, the Gesgurt proceeded to assault Deputy Alexios. In the subsequent engagement, Gesgurt was quickly dispatched. We have disposed of the remains in a preliminary manner, but I suggest a more thorough disposal action be taken.

Summary:
A thorough investigation is suggested in determining if there was any other viable option, and if there was any wrong doing in the actions of Deputies Alexios, Severia, or myself. Given that the normal course of action is a summary execution of the offending goblin, it is the opinion of this militiaman that the plan suggested and enacted by us held a higher than normal chance of generating a successful lead into the goblin menace. Success was not guaranteed, and it’s failure to produce meaningful leads was a distinct and clear possibility.
